Description, aims and activities

An association of enthusiasts and ex- shipbuilders, aiming to save the heritage of the former shipyard Jos. Boel & Sons. This yard once was the biggest shipyard in Belgium, known worldwide for best quality of ships.
With the exeption of one of the large cranes, most of the remains now has disappeared. But huge archive is saved, while and a number of ships built in Temse are still sailing.
Our association is recording the stories in an oral history project, we promote the safeguarding of the old crane and the archives.

The association Op Stoapel  dream of a museum and a mulit-media trail that interpretes and presents this important part of the regional history and heritage of shipbuilding.
